This 15 day tour encompasses the best of Nepal, Tibet and Bhutan. Beginning in Kathmandu, take a spectacular flight across the Himalayas and Mt. Everest, to Tibet, one of the world's most remote and extraordinary destinations. Later on our Himalayan journey, visit the fascinating Kingdom of Bhutan. A window into the past, these remote regions and communities have preserved age old beliefs and traditions despite rapid social & political change.
ITINERARY Day 01 - Kathmandu
Arrive Kathmandu and transfer to hotel. PM Spend a casual afternoon strolling the bazaar and other places of interest. Day 02 - Kathmandu
AM For your introduction to the Kathmandu valley, See the old Royal Palace, built over the course of almost four centuries, then visit Kumari Chowk, and the gilded cage of the Raj Kumari, Kathmandu's "living Goddess". Nearby, stop briefly at Kasthamandap temple then head west to Swayambunath and its sweeping views of the city, a great place to get your bearings geographically and culturally. PM Visit the sister city of Patan. A city of artisans, Patan produces nearly all of Nepal's fine metal work. Day 03 - Fly to Tibet/Tsedang
Take a spectacular flight to Tibet. Arrive at Gongkar airport near Lhasa. Head east along the Yarlung Tsangpo river to the town of Tsedang in the historic Yarlung valley.
Check into hotel on arrival. Day 04 - Tsedang
Spend the first full day in Tibet acclimatizing to the high altitude. Take short excursions to Chongye, the earth tombs of former kings and Yumbu Lhakhang, Tibet's first known dwelling. Resembling a fairy tale castle, it sits perched on the crest of prominent Tashi Tshe Ri and overlooks a wide valley. Day 05 - Lhasa
Drive to Lhasa with brief stops at Kyichu village and a large wall painting of the Buddha just outside Lhasa.
Check into hotel on arrival.
Explore the beauty and magic of Lhasa. PM Your first afternoon in Lhasa begins with a visit to Drepung, Tibet's largest monastery located 8 kms west of the city. Renowned as a great centre of learning it attracted the best and the brightest and in its heyday housed a staggering 10,000 monks, making it the largest monastic institution in the world Day 06 - Lhasa
Visit the imposing Potala Palace. Twelve storeys high and consisting of more than 1,000 rooms, it dominates the Lhasa skyline. After lunch visit the Jokhang and Barkhor market place. Located in the very heart of Lhasa, the Jokhang is the focus of devotion day and night for pilgrims from all over the country who come to pay homage to this spiritual center. Mingle and walk around the Barkhor's inner pilgrim circuit, lined on all sides with markets, shops, stalls and street vendors Day 07 - Kathmandu
Fly back to Kathmandu and check into hotel on arrival Day 08 - Kathmandu
AM Visit Pashupatinath Nepal's holiest Hindu pilgrimage site, then head to Bodhnath, one of the world's largest stupas. PM Tour Bhaktapur, Nepal's most perfectly preserved city, famed for its wood carving and architecture. Day 09 - Paro
Transfer to airport for flight to Paro & begin a six day tour of Bhutan. On arrival check into hotel. Paro at 2300 m is located in a beautiful wooded valley with terraced farmland nourished by the Paro Chu river Day 10 - Paro/Thimpu
A two hr drive on a spectacular mountain highway with lush green forests, waterfalls, rivers and small farm communities brings you to Thimpu. Explore the Thimpu valley with its many monasteries and places of interest. Check into hotel for next two nights. Day 11 - Thimpu
Continue tour of Thimpu. Visit the Memorial Chorten, Druthrop Lhagang nunnery, an indigenous hospital for traditional healing and the busy local market. Day 12 - Punakha
TA scenic drive through mountains and across Duchola pass brings us to the former capital at Punakha,. Visit the imposing Punakha Dzong and Wangdi Phodrang Dzong. Overnight at hotel. Day 13 - Paro
Drive to scenic Paro past impressive views of the northern and southern valleys. On arrival check into hotel and then visit the Ta Dzong National museum and the Drukgyel Dzong ruins later in the day. Day 14 - Taktsang
Take a day trip to Taktsang or "tigers nest" situated on a precipitous cliff face 800 m above the Paro valley. Day 15 - Departure
Transfer to airport for departure on Druk Air to Bangkok.
