For those yearning adventure and more dramatic views than what the Kathmandu valley has to offer, picturesque Pokhara and its mountain lake under a looming wall of peaks is a natural progression. Take a four day trek through steep, lush hill country, with outstanding views of the Annapurnas and Machhapuchhre. Later embark on an exhilarating raft trip down the Trisuli river, emerging near Chitwan National Park for two thrilling days of jungle activity; a fitting end to a fun Nepal adventure.
ITINERARY Day 01 - Kathmandu:
Arrive in Kathmandu & transfer to hotel. Day 02 - Kathmandu:
AM Begin with a visit to the old Royal Palace, built over a course of almost 4 centuries, followed by a visit to Kumari Chowk, and the gilded cage of the Raj Kumari, Kathmandu's "living Goddess". Nearby, stop briefly at Kasthamandap temple, believed to have been built from a single tree, then head west to Swayambunath and its sweeping views - a great place to get your bearings geographically and culturally. PM Visit the sister city of Patan. A city of artisans, Patan produces nearly all of Nepal's fine metal work and its craftspeople have created some of the most extraordinarily lavish temples. Day 03 - 05 Trek & Camping:
Fly west to Pokhara and begin a 4 day trek. Take the trail eastward to Syaglung. We will use one of two trek routes, either one goes around Begnas Lake and has spectacular mountain views. There are excellent views of the Himalaya, featuring Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and the graceful pyramid of Machhapuchhre on both treks. In addition see a colorful cross section of Nepalese ethnic groups. Overnight camps will be set up at Kalikasthan, Syaglung village and Chisapani ridge. Day 06 - Pokhara:
The last day of trek ends after lunch. Take a short drive back to Pokhara beside the shore of Phewa Tal lake. Overnight at a lakeside hotel. Day 07 - Rafting & Camping:
Transfer to the raft put-in point, for an exhilarating white-water raft trip down the Trisuli river. Camp alongside the river. Day 08 - Drive to Chitwan:
AM After breakfast continue raft trip down the Trisuli. See interesting riverside communities as the landscape changes from deep river gorges to sandy beaches in the Terai lowlands.
Transfer from river to road transport. PM Drive to Chitwan National Park. Overnight at Tiger Tops Tented Camp or Chitwan Jungle Lodge. Day 09 - 10 Chitwan National Park:
Home to a variety of animals including the Great Asian one-horned rhinoceros and the Royal Bengal tiger, it also boasts the last and largest remaining areas of tall grassland habitat. Activities include elephant-back game viewing, exploring the river on dugout canoe, nature walks, birdwatching and village natural history tours. All safaris are conducted by resident naturalists and guides. Day 11 - Chitwan:
After a leisurely breakfast and final morning in the jungle, drive or fly back to Kathmandu. Overnight at hotel. Day 12 - Kathmandu:
