Nepal Sampler
Scattered amongst terraced hill sides, little mountain villages greet us on our descent into the Kathmandu valley. Hindu temples, Buddhist Stupas, rolling country side and traditional brick built villages provide incentives for day trips as do the sister cities of Patan and Bhaktapur with their traditional art and architecture. An exciting excursion out of Kathmandu takes us to Chitwan National park where the endangered one-horned Asian rhinoceros can be easily viewed from the vantage of an elephant's back.

ITINERARY
Day 01 - Kathmandu:
Arrive in Kathmandu & transfer to hotel. Transfer to hotel and spend remainder of day at leisure.
Day 02 - Kathmandu:
AM Begin with a visit to the old Royal Palace, built over a course of almost 4 centuries, followed by a visit to Kumari Chowk, and the gilded cage of the Raj Kumari, Kathmandu's "living Goddess". Nearby, stop briefly at Kasthamandap temple, believed to have been built from a single tree, then head west to Swayambunath and its sweeping views - a great place to get your bearings geographically and culturally.
PM Visit the sister city of Patan. A city of artisans, Patan produces nearly all of Nepal's fine metal work and its craftspeople have created some of the most extraordinarily lavish temples.
(An optional early morning mountain flight with spectacular close-ups of Everest and the surrounding peaks is also available).
Day 03 - Kathmandu:
AM Visit Pashupatinath, Nepal's holiest Hindu pilgrimage site, before continuing on to the great Buddhist stupa at Bodhnath, acknowledged to be the most important Tibetan Buddhist monument outside Tibet. PM Tour Bhaktapur, Nepal's most perfectly preserved city, famed for its wood carvings and architecture. The pagoda style of building originates here. Overnight at hotel.
Day 04 - Chitwan:
AM Either fly to Meghauli or take a pleasant drive along the Trisuli river to Chitwan National Park. Spend two nights at the Tiger Tops Jungle Lodge/Chitwan Jungle Lodge. All safaris are conducted by resident naturalists and guides. Activities include elephant back game viewing, exploring the river on dugout canoe, nature walks, birdwatching and village natural history tours.
Day 05 - Chitwan :
Spend entire day exploring the Chitwan National Park. Considered one of the richest wildlife areas in Asia, it also boasts the last and largest remaining areas of tall grassland habitat. Over 50 species of mammals are found here including the one horned Asian rhinoceros, bear, fresh water dolphin and the Royal Bengal tiger.
Day 06 - Kathmandu:
After some early morning activity, fly back to Kathmandu. Transfer to Nagarkot for mountain views. Overnight at hotel.
Day 07 - Departure:
Transfer to airport and board flight for home. OR continue extension.
