Yunnan is the sixth largest of China's 23 provinces. Towering mountains border Tibet and Burma in the north while lush jungles border Laos and Vietnam to the south. In western Yunnan mighty ranges fan south from Tibet, channelling some of Asia’s great rivers through immense deep canyons. The Salween, the Mekong and the Yangzi race side by side far below the snowcapped peaks, barely 50 miles apart.
Half of all China’s animals and plant species can be found somewhere in Yunnan. Two thirds of its 40 million inhabitants belong to 25 ethnic communities. The women wear colorful attire and the people still maintain age old customs and traditions.
Visit the stone forest of Lunan 80 kms from Kunming the ‘City of Spring’, as well as the lush tropical prefecture of Xishuang Banna, a place full of mystery and legend.
