After Pokhara, Chitwan is another major tourist destination in Nepal which is particularly famous for the Chitwan National Park. Chitwan is situated 101 kilometers away from Kathmandu and 86.3 kilometers from Pokhara.
It takes about 2 hours to reach Chitwan from Pokhara. The journey is filled with beautiful sites of green rolling hills and the mighty Himalayan rivers flowing below. Furthermore, the newly renovated highway has made traveling to Chitwan very comfortable.
Chitwan is especially famous for its wildlife. The Chitwan National Park is the major attractor in Nepal. This World Heritage Site covers 932 sq. km of protected forests, marshland and grassland containing several exotic animals and birds.
There are a lot of things one can do here like a guided walk in the jungle, jeep safari, canoe trip, bird watching, a night stay in jungle tower and many more. The park is home to rare and endangered species like the one-horned rhino, the sloth bear and the great Bengal Tiger. There are also more than 500 species of birds, which makes it an excellent site for bird watching.
